Types of Acne -Acne Treatments and Remedies

Types of Acne –Acne treatment and remedies

Acne are small eruptions on the skin caused by hyperactivity of sebaceous glands. Acne are of different types. They can be classified according to their severity as mild acne, moderate acne and severe acne. While blackheads and blackheads are mild form of acne. Pimples, pustules and papules are moderate acne while nodes and cysts are acne vulgaris, which is severe acne. When acne is even more severe than acne vulgaris, it is called Acne Conglobata , Acne Fulminans, Gram-Negative Folliculitis and Pyoderma Faciale (Rosacea Fulminans)

Black heads are formed when oil trapped partially in the pores is oxidized by air and it changes color. These little black spots on the face, if not removed, can lead to further infection and moderate acne. Whiteheads happen when the pores are completely blocked by the excess sebum secreted by oil glands. These can be easily treated and made to disappear.

Pimples, pustules and papulas are the next stage of acne. They occur as eruptions on the skin. Pimples and pustules are pus filled bumps. They are white or yellow in appearance. They are painful. These should not be pinched or burst open. Papulas are inflamed red eruptions on the skin. The right kind of treatment will help to subdue infection and prevent deep scarring.

Nodes and cysts are severe form of acne. These are bumpy eruptions inside the skin surface. These are bigger in size as compared to pimples or papulas. They are very painful and inevitably leave deep scars on the skin. Cysts are similar in appearence to nodes but are pus filled and so very painful. Both these types of acne take a long time to heal and vanish. Pinching them will cause the surface of the skin to break and form tiny holes along with scarring.

The next stage of acne are very dangerous and cause disfiguration to the face. They are big, inflamed and extremely unsightly. Acne Conglobata is the most severe form. These look like nodes but are bigger and interconnected under the surface of the skin, making them look very big. A generous sprinkling of blackheads can also be found in this type of acne. These are more common in men and unfortunately, can last up to many years. These usually appear in the latter stage of teenage years. The treatment is very rigorous. In many cases, these acne become immune to treatment. Some severe kinds of acne like the Gram-Negative Folliculitis are caused due to bacterial infection and is an severe outbreak of pimples and cysts. Pyoderma Faciale (Rosacea Fulminans) is the most severe kind of acne in women. Men do not get this acne. These are red and the outbreak is spread over the whole face, effecting specially the cheeks and on either sides of the nose. It may take almost an year to clear. But it is dangerous since it causes a lot of damage and permanent scarring in a very short time.

Self medication for acne is not advisable. Severe kinds of acne need expert treatment which only a qualified skin specialist will be able to treat. Always treat the acne when it is in its initial stages. Delay aggravates the problem. Do not go in for any other facial treatments in the midst of an acne outbreak. Use medicated products as advised by the doctor. Acne does leave physical scars. Getting depressed and worried will only increase your problem. So relax and follow a hygienic skin routine.
